AML3D Ltd (ASX: AL3), a global leader in industrial-scale metal 3D printing, has officially opened its U.S. Technology Facility in Stow, Ohio—a significant move that strengthens the AUKUS defense partnership and enhances American supply chain resilience.
The state-of-the-art plant, powered by AML3D’s proprietary Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAM®) technology, will produce critical components for the U.S. Navy’s Virginia-class submarine program. This milestone aligns directly with the broader strategic priorities of the trilateral AUKUS alliance between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Speaking at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Pete Goumas, President and CEO of AML3D USA, emphasized the plant’s national security value:
“This facility represents more than just an expansion of our operations – it’s a strategic investment in America’s defense industrial base. By establishing advanced manufacturing capabilities on U.S. soil, we’re helping to ensure the Navy has reliable, domestic access to the critical components needed for the submarine programs that are vital to national security.”
The Stow facility will also serve broader defense and commercial applications across aerospace and energy industries, showcasing the flexibility of AML3D’s technology in reducing production timelines, material waste, and costs when compared to traditional manufacturing.
Sean Ebert, AML3D’s Global CEO, added that this development showcases the tangible benefits of the AUKUS alliance:
“AML3D’s investment in Ohio demonstrates the practical benefits of the AUKUS partnership. This facility enables us to support all three AUKUS nations while strengthening the allied defense industrial base through advanced manufacturing technologies developed in Australia and now deployed in America.”
U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) praised the opening as a vote of confidence in American manufacturing:
“AML3D exemplifies our district’s leadership in cutting-edge manufacturing that not only provides a path to a safer future, but also supports the trilateral AUKUS partnership.”
The facility already houses two AML3D systems at the U.S. Navy’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence and serves as a supplier to defense and civilian infrastructure projects alike, including the Tennessee Valley Authority.
The company also plans to hire skilled technicians, engineers, and specialists, boosting local employment and building a pipeline of talent through educational partnerships across Ohio.
“This investment represents our confidence in Ohio’s skilled workforce and business environment,” said Goumas. “We’re committed to building long-term partnerships with local suppliers and educational institutions to create a sustainable advanced manufacturing ecosystem.”
The Stow facility represents the first phase of AML3D’s U.S. expansion strategy, with future capacity likely to support submarine production, aerospace manufacturing, and energy infrastructure development.
Investors responded positively to the announcement. As of midday Friday, AML3D shares (ASX: AL3) were trading at $0.145, up 7.41%, with a 1-year return of nearly 120%, underscoring the market’s confidence in AML3D’s strategic pivot toward defense manufacturing in North America.
