Recently, several gold discoveries were made by Kalgoorlie Gold Mining (ASX: KAL), also known as KalGold, during recent aircore drilling. This drilling project was conducted at the Wessex and Harbour Lights prospects in the Pinjin Project. The drilling program at Wessex, part of the Pinjin Project is located around 140km northeast of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder, indicating the chances of there being large gold reserves and prospects of exploration of the Pinjin Goldfield.

The initial aircore drill program at the Wessex target has uncovered extensive and thick gold mineralization. Significant intercepts include:

Let’s get into a bit more about the geological details of the project. The Wessex prospect has had a severe gold anomalism recently. This stretches to almost 800 by 250 m including historic drill intercepts across the tenement boundary. What does this prove? Well, it shows us the continuity of gold mineralization in the region. The gold mineralization at Wessex is hosted in a komatiitic (high-Mg) basalt at and east of its contact with a schistose, intermediate volcano-sedimentary package.
Â
The mineralization remains open along the down-dip to the east, as well as, the north and south regions. This suggests significant potential for further discoveries. The absence of outcrops at Wessex, with 10 to 20 meters of barren transported cover overlying the bedrock, adds to the exploration potential of the site.

Â
While the initial aircore drilling at Harbour Lights was more subtle compared to Wessex, it still provided promising signs of gold mineralization. Low-level gold and associated arsenic anomalism were detected in the most northern drill line, located approximately 400 meters south of Harbour Lights. These findings, along with visual and geochemical indicators such as veining, shearing, and pyrite mineralization, underscore the potential of the Harbour Lights trend.

Â
KalGold’s (ASX: KAL) Managing Director, Matt Painter, expressed enthusiasm about the drilling results. He mentioned how the thick and coherent zones of shallow gold mineralization were defined from the recorded gold anomalism. He commented on how the shape and size of the gold mineralization at Wessex shows evident parallels with the neighboring Anglo Saxon gold deposit at Hawthorn Resources’ (ASX: HAW)

This site is located barely 1km away to the northeast. The company will further conduct follow-up explorations in the near future. This includes an exploration at Wessex and Harbour Lights which includes aircore and reverse circulation drilling. These programs aim to further explore the extent of gold mineralization and improve the prospectivity of the northern part of KalGold’s (ASX: KAL) contiguous tenure.
Â
At Wessex, the focus will be on delineating the full extent of the gold zones, which remain open to the north, northeast, and down-dip. The continued exploration will be crucial in defining a resource base that could potentially feed into planned milling operations to the south.
Â
Â
Large portions of the southern Laverton Tectonic Zone, which is noted for housing some of the biggest gold mines and reserves in the Eastern Goldfields, are covered by KalGold's (ASX: KAL) vast Pinjin Gold Project. The project is well-positioned for future development due to its advantageous location between Ramelius Resources' Rebecca gold development project to the south and Hawthorn Resources' (ASX: HAW) Anglo Saxon (Trouser Legs) open pit mine to the north.
Â
Recent finds at Wessex, close to the Anglo-Saxon deposit, support the company's theory that the outcropping Pinjin Goldfield continues to support gold mineralization southward behind a thin layer of transported sediment. This creates a significant additional chance for shallow gold mineralization by methodically evaluating the designated targets across the trend.
Â
Â
As KalGold (ASX: KAL) prepares for follow-up drilling, the company can find further value and define a substantial gold resource in this historically rich mining region. The success of this initial drilling program not only boosts the company’s exploration prospects but also sets a promising trajectory for future developments in the Pinjin Goldfield.
Â
With continued exploration and strategic investments, KalGold (ASX: KAL) can solidify its position as a leading explorer and developer in the Eastern Goldfields region.
